EARLY REVIEWS OF "STILL THE BIRDS"
“Yes, Darryl Purpose sounds like James Taylor. And, yes, he has an amazing backstory… These songs are so good they eclipse all that. Purpose has a rare flair for writing memorable mellifluous melodies…Keep this up, and someday folks will say James Taylor sounds like Darryl Purpose.” ~ Steven Wine (Associated Press) ABC NEWS, The Washington Post
“This is absolutely superb work from one of a kind.” ~ Jim Hynes, Elmore Magazine
“Fascinating, ingratiating, controversial, interesting, deep and somewhat off-center…”

"Still the Birds" album release!
He's back! Darryl Purpose recorded his new release "Still the Birds" here at Blue Rock, where he says "amazing things happen." We agree, and now we can share more of Darryl, his songs, and the album with all of you. The new CD, "Still the Birds" officially took flight May 6th. The 11 songs on the record are broadly cinematic, and co-written by Darryl and his good friend Paul Zolo.
Darryl teamed up with some of the planet’s most amazingly talented and respected musicians on this venture including: Roscoe Beck – bass (Leonard Cohen, The Dixie Chicks, Robben Ford), Eric Darken – percussion (Jimmy Buffet, Carrie Underwood), Daran DeShazo – electric guitar, Grammy-winning accordion and keyboard player, Joel Guzman (Ricki Lee Jones, Tom Waits), and our own Billy Crockett – producer. Vocalists include: Jonathan Byrd, Carrie Elkin, Matt Nakoa, Betty Soo, and Eliza Gilkyson in a duet with Darryl on “The Meaning Of My Love”.
We're proud of Darryl and this project, and we can't wait to share it with you!
